Dream A Little Dream (Giovanna Fletcher)
Dream a little Dream is the third novel from Giovanna Fletcher and personally I think it’s her best yet! The novel follows Sarah who has been single for two years but still has to spend an uncomfortable amount of time with her ex-boyfriend, his perfect new girlfriend and all their mutual friends. She also works as a PA for one of the most disgusting men in London who doesn’t appreciate her dreams of promotion, as well as being a constant disappointment to her mother in all matters of her life. So it’s fair to say that for Sarah, her life isn’t going that well. The only happiness she finds is when a handsome stranger starts appearing in her dreams every night. He is everything she is looking for in a man, charming, sweet and of course very good looking! However when this dream-stranger makes an unexpected real-life appearance, Sarah is left questioning everything she thought she wanted, because no one ever really finds the man of their dreams….do they?
This novel is a lovely, sweet and at times funny, story of finding happiness when you least expect it. Every chapter starts with a short dream sequence, leading us into the mind of Sarah’s character and helping us to really see her inner thoughts and feelings, for everyone knows that our dreams are shaped by events in real life which can often lead to some very strange imaginings – something we get a lot of from Sarah’s mind! As the novel progresses and Sarah’s handsome stranger appears these dreams turn a little saucy. Nothing 50 Shades wise but enough for you to get the picture! These saucy details gives the novel a more grown up feel than Giovanna’s previous novels which is maybe why I like this one better than her others. The only downside of these dream sequences is that once the story really gets going the sudden change of setting can be a little distracting and you kind of want to skip over them to get back to the real story!
The main character of Sarah is very well written, she is someone you can completely relate to as she struggles to cope with seeing the ex-boyfriend all over his new girl (and the girl she was dumped for no less!) but not wanting to lose their mutual friends she pretends she is totally fine with it all. Something which only gets harder when they move into the perfect family home and subsequently announce their engagement! As well as dealing with this shock news Sarah is also hit with one of her friends surprise pregnancies and of course her dream man turning up to work as her new colleague. There are therefore a lot of twists and turns along the way – there is also a small cameo from Tom Fletcher of McBusted fame (and Giovanna’s husband!) as well as Tom Jones!
Overall I really enjoyed this novel. Giovanna is an amazing writer and this novel really feels like she has finally found her confidence in her writing as it is a step above her previous two. That’s not to say that they aren’t good, I would definitely recommend them too but personally I think this is my favourite of the three and I can’t wait to read what Giovanna offers next!
