Hi Oloni, my boyfriend and I got into a heated argument. He was on my bed in my flat and I asked him not to take off his clothes coz we he just broken up and we’re trying to be friends. He disregarded me as usual and took off his clothes. I was uncomfortable and left to the other room. I then came back after a few mins and told him I’d like him to leave. He says he will leave when he wants to. The argument gets heated but not physical. Anyways I end up calling the police. Was I wrong?

Dump him
Dear Oloni. I have been dating my boyfriend for almost 3 years now. At first I wasn’t bothered by his home-situation, but as we are getting older I feel as if there needs to be some sort of change. I feel as if my boyfriend’s mother won’t let him be great. We are Africans, so you may understand how stricts some parents may be. He has a little sister and he is almost like her caregiver i.e. He needs to bring her to school early in the morning, pick her up from school, watch her and feed her. All of this is nice, but he is the only one doing this in his household. He has a senior brother and a father and they don’t seem to be doing anything. Lately this has been causing me to be irritated, because we can’t even seem to be doing stuff without him doing some sort of chores for his mother i.e. groceries. Or he’ll be at my place and his mother will call him to pick up his sister, mind you we live in two different cities. I have a hard time coping with this, because he can’t just stop helping his mom. Plus his mom is very headstrong: what she wants, is what she will gets. As you can imagine this is a very difficult situation. Since he is accepting all of this, i have been looking at him sideways… like why won’t he atleast speak up?

You’ll have to talk to him and tell your man how you feel, there might be a specific reason as to why he’s always helping. A lot of parents rely on their kids to help raise their siblings and usually bother the responsible one.

Oloni
Dear Oloni, im in my early twenties and recently I have contracted herpes from a guy im dating. Since it has happened we have been arguing continuously. I feel like we may have to part ways but do you have any advice on dating moving forward? I will 100% tell any partner before I get intimate with them but im having anxiety just thinking about disclosing it to a potential partner because of the stigma.

Hey love, you’d be surprised at the number of young adults who have herpes. It’s stigmatised so several people choose not to speak about it. It’s important to constantly talk to a sexual health nurse/dr if you do get anxiety about disclosing the information to new partners.
I also wrote a blog once about it. Read it here: https://simplyoloni.com/usher-herpes-and-everything-you-should-know-about-the-virus/
