When To Say Goodbye To Your Boyfriend

Sometimes when you are in a relationship – new or old – it can be hard to identify when it’s time to break up with your partner.

When you’ve just gotten with someone it is easy to dismiss red flags because you want to give the relationship a chance. You’ve let them into your life for more than just their gorgeous smile, so why not stick it out and see if it gets better, right? Not always.

Similar feelings can emerge when you have been with someone for a long time. You may be fed up with their habits or you may just be starting to miss the single life.

All of these feelings are completely normal but it is also important to ensure you want to end the relationship for the right reasons.

According to menshealth.com, 26% of women end the relationship because of too many arguments, while 18% end it when there is no chemistry.

If you are in a long term relationship then think about if your actual problem with your other half is simply boredom or curiosity about being with other people. In cases such as these a break up is not necessarily a good solution – not a good long term solution anyway.

Unless you are 100% sure that you do not want to be in the relationship any more then it may be helpful to simply talk to the person you’re with about how you feel. Nobody is a mind reader so it is fair to give them a chance to change their ways.

If you are bored then find new things you can do together. Try a cuisine you’ve never tried before, go on a weekend break away. Just create new memories and new experiences. Change up your routine. Surprise each other. Get to know each other again.

If you are in a new relationship it can be easier to walk away. Less time and energy has been invested at this point. However, if you do want it to work, then work out what it is that will make you feel more comfortable then communicate that to your partner.

All in all, everyone has their boundaries, and sometimes people know deep down when the relationship should end.  At times of crisis, the majority of us turn to family and friends for advice. While it is important to take whatever advice they do give with a pinch of salt, they may also be able to open your eyes to things you have previously not been able to see for yourself.

One thing that should also never be overlooked is your happiness. If you are not happy with the person you’re with and they do not want to change, then that should tell you everything you need to know.
