Sex Tape (2014)
Sex Tape stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel as a married couple, who one drunken night decided to make a sex tape only to wake up the next morning and find that the video has been sent to all the iPads they recently gave out to their friends, neighbours (and even postman!) as Christmas presents. What follows is a hilarious tale as the two of them desperately try to get the iPads back and erase the video before anyone sees it. The supporting cast, in particular Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids) and Rob Lowe, are excellent as their friend and boss respectively.
Jason and Cameron are well known for their comedy films, and the two of them together are well matched. Their characters bounce off each other, and though Cameron is clearly well out of Jason’s league, you do believe they are genuinely in love. Jason has undergone a severe weight loss (which helps us to believe that Cameron would really be interested in him as he is now a lot slimmer than what he used to be) but at times it is a little unnerving as his face is quite gaunt, but that may just be because we are so used to seeing him a little bit chunkier!
Not only is the film very funny but it also shows how far some people will go to protect their family – in Jason’s characters case, jumping off a balcony in order to stop his children’s school from seeing the video! The couple also hit a rough patch amongst themselves in their anger and desperation at erasing the video, but luckily it all ends well and becomes something they can just laugh about.
I really enjoyed this film; it is very on topic as it made me think about how in the news recently there have been a lot of leaked intimate photos of celebrities which have been taken from ‘the cloud’ and as Jason’s character explains “no-one understands the cloud!” which is incredibly true! I think the moral of this film is that what you may do in your private life won’t necessarily stay private unless you are fully aware of where you are storing your videos or pictures. So if you are into that kind of stuff just be careful, and watch Sex Tape to get some tips as to how to get your videos/pictures back if they are leaked!
