Get Your Own Style

Within the fashion world there are so many different types of people who all have their own personal styles. Even within your personal circle and friendship groups, your clothing may be similar but you will all wear things differently and style things in ways that make you comfortable.

Since 2014, we at Simply Oloni have noticed a rise is people suffering from SSS, which we like to call “Style Stealing Syndrome”, individuals who like to copy, imitate or steal other’s personal style and passing it off as their own. Now when trying to find your personal style, we can admit that it is hard, especially when you’re in that “finding yourself” phase, but this never gives you the right to take what someone else is doing and make it seem like you came up with it first.

When it comes to personal style, everyone wants to be seen as an individual. People can become inspired and take bits and bobs to then twist it, flip it, morph it into their own sense of style. HOWEVER, when someone takes exactly what you are doing or planning on doing and hasn’t changed it to suit them or continuously doesn’t have their own ideas, we at Simply Oloni feel that this is SSS and they should be put on a timeout for their reckless behaviour.

It is past the point of flattery and makes us question if people have their own minds and sense of fashion? We also thought we left looking the same in high school (secondary school to the majority) and ain’t nobody tryna relive those days. Also how annoying and awkward is it when you then go for the look your planned to do and then people start comparing you to the person who stole it.

Who then looks like the copycat?

YOU.

Now to leave you all with a favourite quote from Vogue –

“No one owns fashion, but it’s good etiquette to leave people to their own looks”

– Carol Woolton
