27 Dresses (2008)
Katherine Heigl is surrounded by remarks about her diva behaviour and how she thinks she is better than everyone around her, but whether this is true or not, you can’t deny she is a great actress. In 27 Dresses Heigl plays Jane, a young woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times and is now facing her toughest challenge yet – watching her sister Tess marry the man she is secretly in love with.
I think every girl has had the experience of a friend or family member dating a guy you want for yourself and in 27 Dresses Heigl expertly conveys these feelings. We see her forced happiness when around the couple and her jealousy and anger about it when she is not. What makes the situation even harder is that the man both sisters are in love with is Jane’s boss, and the majority of what he loves about Tess is fake as she lies about what she likes in order to impress him more. Jane is stuck in the middle knowing the lies her sister is telling but also knowing that she can never be with George herself now unless she ruins her relationship with her sister, the sister she has been a mother figure too all her life. Ultimately Jane has to decide whether to tell George the truth and split them up or try and look past both her own feelings and the lies from her sister.
Along the way Jane meets Kevin (James Marsden) a journalist who is asked to write a story on the up-coming marriage. The connection between these two characters is very cheeky and they bounce off of each other so easily throughout the film with the comedic element coming from them more than the others. 27 Dresses is a great girly film that can be watched countless times!
