The Invisible Boyfriend App, Create a Make Belief Partner For Yourself

‘We’re a company called Invisible Girlfriend and Invisible Boyfriend, and we help people avoid the societal stigma of being single by giving them credible, social proof they’re in a relationship,’ says their site.

When you thought the pressure of having a boyfriend wasn’t that serious, this app comes along. Yes, that’s right Invisible Boyfriend is an app that allows you to create a love life for yourself. The app includes a monthly fee of £17 for 100 text messages and 10 voicemails.. and wait for it a postcard from a partner who does not exist.

The Invisible Boyfriend encourages those who are single to use this as method of practice for the real thing. It was also developed to help fool family and friends into believing they won’t be spending Feb 14 by themselves, or alone in general.

You get to pick how you want your Invisible Boyfriend to look and even create a ‘How you met’ log so everything is more believable.

You’re probably wondering if the people pretending to be your boyfriend are robots? Nope! TIME Magazine reported that ‘Invisible Boyfriend partnered with companies that allow them to scale its workforce to respond to incoming text messages’

Matthew Homann the creator of the app told Buzzfeed: ‘Our audience might come from a variety of situations: maybe they’re in a same-sex relationship they’re hiding from disapproving relatives, are trying to avoid the unwelcome advances from a coworker, or have chosen to focus on their work instead of romance.’

You could say the Invisible Boyfriend seems to have it’s pros and cons, but what does that say about society if we’re suddenly faking our relationship status due to the thoughts and opinions of others?
