Prepare Your Skin For Autumn

As we kiss the end of summer goodbye and welcome the season of autumn, the weather will soon be getting colder and your skin may be damaged from spending time in the hot weather. Sun exposure during the summer months depletes collagen. Collagen is a glue-like substance that supports tissues and is responsible for firmness and elasticity of the skin. Being in the sun causes collagen to break down, damaging it and promoting early aging. Meaning it is extra important to take care of your skin, after the hotter months. Also, as the temperature in the UK decreases, skin can become dry and flaky if not taken care of properly. Here are a few tips and tricks, to take extra care of your skin as autumn approaches.

Smooth, flake free skin requires exfoliation: If your skin is dull and rough from all the time you’ve spent outdoors, using a facial exfoliator up to three times a week can help you on your way to softer skin. Soap & Glory ‘The Greatest Scrub of All’ (£6.00 from Boots) is the ideal facial exfoliator. It’s an affordable scrub, and it helps with pore-unclogging, radiance-boosting and flaky skin-smoothing. It’s important not to use a body exfoliator on your face, as body scrubs are often too strong for use on the skin. The Body Shop ‘Coconut Body Scrub’ (£13.00) is ideal for all over the body while you are taking a shower.

Give your feet some extra care: In the summer, we wear sandals and by autumn our feet are most likely dry and in need of some TLC. Restore and rejuvenate your tired feet using Scholl ‘Express Pedi’ (£39.99 from Boots). It will give you a pedicure, and remove dead skin from the comfort of your own home. Follow this by your favourite cream, and your feet will be super smooth.

Repairing your lips: Using a lip exfoliator, followed by a lip balm regularly is the ideal way to keep your lips super soft for the colder months. You can pick up a lip exfoliator from Lush Cosmetics, and a Carmex lip balm also works well to repair lips.

Moisturiser: A body butter or an in-shower moisturiser is the ideal way to gain all over moisture. The Body Shop have a range of body butters for £13.00.
