The Best of Both Worlds : Streetwear & Chic
Trying to combine and balance streetwear with chic apparel (and vice versa) can be one of the most trickiest yet satisfying things ever. If you have no problem doing so, then you definitely have found your inner fashionista, or fashionister- for all you guys out there but nevertheless, even the less-gifted can put together something spectacular. So here at SimplyOloni we have pulled together a few tips and tricks to get you started and help you along the way. We also created three different outfits to use as a reference.
The numbers are simply there to show you the the order of which we’ve added the items when putting together each outfit. Keep in mind, these tips can be used for both women and men.
StreetChic Tip #1 – Play Make Believe
Your outfit should either compliment the chic or streetwear piece. We centered the focus around the Adidas ‘J Jeremy Scott’ t-shirt and used like/complimentary colours to help emphasize its design and to also make you forget that its a regular t-shirt. The name of the game when combining streetwear and chic, is to pair the two so well that it seems they were made to go together.
1 : Adidas Original ‘Jeremy Scott’ T-Shirt
4 : Agent NinetyNineMoss Floppy Hat
StreetChic Tip #2 – Versatility With Numbers
Although there was a number of tops to be chosen from, we thought the light blue Tunic was the best bet. The thing we like about this type Tunic is that you can use it for both streetwear as well as for a chic feel. Having something that is versatile enough to be both streetwear and chic is a big bonus and it makes it a lot easier. Sometimes you don’t necessarily have to have an item that’s strictly one or the other, versatility is key. So if you wanted the outfit to have a more street vibe, then opt for some sneakers, dark denim instead of the linen shorts, you get the picture.
1 : Jenny Linen Viscose Shorts
3 : Fringe Tassel Loafers & Valentina Suede Shoe
4 : Kaibosh cat eye acetate sunglasses
6 : Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick
StreetChic Tip #3 – It’s More Than The Clothes
Who said you couldn’t pair denim sailor shorts and a dope Y-3 together? Not you I hope. In the previous outfit it was more chic apparel and as you can see there is a tad bit more streetwear in the last one. Keep in mind that not only do the clothes play a big part but the shoes and accessories (hats, bags, jewellery, etc) do as well. The classic all white Air Force 1s with the Y-3 cap turns this outfit into something that will definitely turn heads, in a good way. With these items it would be the run of the mill denim shorts with a crop top and an oversized sleeveless vest.
1 : Juicy Couture Denim Sailor Shorts
3 : Sleeveless Knitted Oversized Vest
4 : Y-3 baseball cap
5 : Air Force 1 Low
