Zendaya Hits Back At Giuliana Rancic For Comments About Her Dreadlocks

Zendaya has spoken up after E!’s TV host Giuliana Rancic commented on the actresses dreadlocks worn at the Oscars, saying she look like she smelled of “patchouli oil” or “weed”.

The 18-year-old actress decided to take to her Instagram and Twitter sharing a message for being criticised on how she chose to wear her hair.

‘To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or “weed” is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive,’ she wrote ‘There is already a harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair,’

Giuliana did apologise for her comments on Twitter earlier today saying: ‘Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry if I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!’

Many have called out the Fashion Police TV host for being racist. Is this racism or sheer ignorance? When Kylie Jenner was seen sporting the doo a few months back, many online publications called it ‘edgy’ and ‘trendy’, but when Ciara had faux dreads it was labelled as ‘crazy’.
