Girl Boss Of The Porn Industry Reveals Her Story To Simply Oloni

Sex and relationship writer, Sophie Blackman, took to a public coffee shop to talk all things porn, sex, and women with girl boss of the porn and erotica industry, Anna Richards, founder of FrolicMe.com.

After 50 Shades of Grey came out it highlighted many things about the world of porn and erotica, the main one being, women are kinky too. I’m thankful to one woman in particular who drooled over popcorn while watching that film because it encouraged her to bring her erotic site, that she had wanted to create for many years, to life. A platform full of our fantasies, sexy men (yes, there are others like James Deen) and a place where we can get our kink on without being drowned in vulgar images.

It was a cold Autumnal morning, I curled my hair as quickly as I could and wore one of those bright lipsticks that screams ‘I’M A SASSY WOMAN’, pulled my stockings up and ran out of the door. Making sure that I grabbed my Costa Coffee points card on the way. I was meeting Anna, a successful business woman, in the world of visual and written erotica and my curiosity was killing me. I wanted to know everything, where the idea came from? What happens behind closed doors? Do a lot of women watch porn/erotica? So I’m not alone?

Luckily I arrived before Anna did, so I sat in a corner as we were in a very public place and I doubt everyone wanted to hear us talking about vaginas and penises while sipping on their tea. She strolled in shortly after, looking effortlessly stylish wearing all dark colours that matched her dark hair. She’s tall, slim, educated and well spoken but with a naughty glint in her eye.

My first question after the typical British, ‘How are you? Isn’t the weather awful?’ was how Anna had got involved with the erotic world and created a site aimed at women. She pulled a cheeky grin and told me how the journey began with a sex blog. “It was just a platform where I posted beautiful images and created titillating stories to accompany the photos, sometimes expanding on what I saw to create an erotic story.” She took a sip of her latte and continued. “Hence where the idea came from to have stories accompany the images and films on FrolicMe.com. More often I focused on fantasies and then added arousing words offering lust and hot blooded passion, something that would simply stir the mind in an elegant fashion. I quickly had a following without trying and then gauged from those followers that there was an interest in extending the imagery to film and bringing in erotic stories and images.”

Anna told me how she would often see such beautiful erotic imagery on the web, sometimes in black and white, that were elegant, stylish and so enticing to look at. “Not all of the photos were of people naked, some just suggestive, playful, capturing a moment of a sexual encounter but then I never understood that when it came to short films there was nothing more than cheap and vulgar poorly produced porn, rarely sensual or erotic. Surely someone should do something to offer an alternative and show sex in an elegant “sexy” fashion, not cheapen it and just offer vulgar images. There was nothing on those sites that I liked and as a woman realised we are 50% of a couple, have active minds just the same and yes enjoy sex too.” Anna took another sip and I finally managed to stop my head from nodding in agreement.

Anna came up with the idea and visualised the site for many years before the obsession of 50 Shades of Grey and the intense interest for erotica began. She said, “The film cemented just how many women were deeply fascinated in this quite strong BDSM film and that they were prepared to have their eyes opened by it all fascinated me.” Realising that there were plenty of women who had minds racing away on kinky thoughts she decided to do something about it. She said, “It took a full year before FrolicMe.com went live in 2014 with my first set of erotic films and stories. I felt the time was right to offer something respectable that emphasised mutual consent between adults yet was exciting, fantasy led and still 18+ naughty. It was erotic cinema for adults and something that challenged the stereotypical notion of what porn was offering. Being a woman and not from the industry allowed me to look at it with fresh eyes and create what I wanted to see.”

I couldn’t help but sit there and admire how Anna bravely stepped into a male dominated world and wasn’t scared to put her ideas and business out there. FrolicMe.com and its mainstream approach to erotica now has a large female audience, Anna told me, “The women who watch the site are educated and not the type of person who would randomly buy online porn. Because this isn’t your normal porn site, it’s bringing a new found style and approach to adult erotic entertainment that both women and couples can enjoy together.”

After only being online for 18 months, FrolicMe.com has been nominated for Erotic Site of the Year 2017, by the adult film industry XBIZ.
